Ultrafast dynamics followed by light excitations in plasmonic materials is a rapidly growing field in condensed matter physics due to the remarkable insights that ultrashort lasers can provide into scattering mechanisms in matter, and due to related applications ranging from optical sensors, enhanced spectroscopy, photocatalysis to biomedicine. In addition to inducing and stimulating chemical reactions on surfaces, ultrafast interactions of light and matter can induce potential energy modifications and thereby excite new states of matter, such as phase transitions and superconducting states out of equilibrium. A complete theoretical description of plasmonic and photoexcited materials and the interaction of light and matter in general is far from available and requires the engagement and joint work of researchers from different fields. This workshop aims to bring together leading theoretical and experimental experts from various scientific disciplines dealing with the interaction of light and matter to exchange knowledge and advance the field of ultrafast non-equilibrium dynamics in condensed matter and physical chemistry.
