QuMat seminar

Neutron scattering for the investigation of quantum materials

Speaker: Kim Lefmann – Niels Bohr Institute
Host: Machteld Kamminga

[guest]

Abstract:

Neutrons constitute a powerful probe for the study of materials. Within quantum materials, neutrons interact with the electronic spins, revealing both magnetic structure and correlated dynamics. I will give a general presentation of the technique, including examples from my own research that comprises quantum effects in (frustrated) magnets and magnetic structure and fluctuations in cuprate superconductors. As an outlook, I will present the future possibilities with neutron scattering at the upcoming facility European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund (S) and the plans we have in the newly established “ESS Lighthouse” for quantum materials in Denmark.
