Short Biography

The focus of the Zandvliet group is on the realization and characterization of 2D Dirac materials, van der Waals heterostructures and twisted materials. Among others the group uses scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy techniques to study the quantum spin Hall effect in germanene and topologically protected transport in twisted graphene. Zandvliet is a recipient of an NWO Vidi grant and has coordinated two free FOM programs on 1D and 2D materials, respectively. He is an elected fellow of the Institute of Physics and APS outstanding referee.
