Short Biography

My name is Zhiying Dan, and I am currently a PhD candidate in the group of Antonija Grubišić Čabo at the University of Groningen. I obtained my master’s degree in materials physics from South China Normal University, China.
My research focuses on developing novel in-situ exfoliation methods under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions to produce high-quality monolayer films of two-dimensional materials. To investigate their electronic structure, I primarily employ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), a powerful technique that enables direct probing of the electronic properties of solids and surfaces. By studying metal-assisted exfoliation and interfacial interactions—ranging from van der Waals contacts to chemically bonded interfaces—I aim to deepen the fundamental understanding of 2D materials and contribute to the advancement of next-generation semiconductor devices.
